The skyline of Uptown Charlotte is brimming with cranes as developers work to add to the city’s residential and retail spaces capitalizing on Charlotte’s rapid growth rate.
One development of particular interest for Charlotteans has been the EpiCentre, named for its location in the heart of Uptown Charlotte. The EpiCentre is an enormous mixed-use development touting a 265,000 sq ft retail center, a 50-story condominium tower, an ‘aLoft’ Hotel created by Starwood Hotels, and 60,000 sq ft of office space.
The EpiCentre will introduce much needed everyday entertainment to the Center City such as a bowling alley, movie theatre, retail shops and an open-air pavilion for concerts and events, as well as add to the city’s expanding list of restaurants, wine and sports bars, nightclubs, apartments, condos, and hotels.
Although the EpiCentre was originally slated to be completed in early 2008, it is still very much under construction. However, Whiskey River, a nightclub part-owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr., was opened in April ‘08 and it is only a matter of time before more shops will begin to open as well. With the Time Warner Cable Arena, the LYNX-Charlotte’s light-rail system, and both Wachovia’s and Bank of America’s headquarters only steps away, the EpiCentre is sure to a booming success.
